Se você é como eu e está perdido no Illustrator porque começou usando o maldito CorelDraw essa dica pode lhe ser útil.
No Illustrator, quando queremos alinhar um objeto com um texto, ele usa as métricas da fonte por padrão ao invés de usar o que seria a outline da fonte. Para não precisar converter a fonte em Outline faça o seguinte:

Para ativar comece a digitar seu texto, e quando a dúvida surgir aperte esc e boom, o menu aparece!
